About Detouring Dana

Hey everyone! I am so excited to see you here, it means the world that you’re taking the time to read about my journey in travel and the detours I have taken! I have taken so much time trying to define my passions, and one constant has always been travel.

A Brief Timeline:

I am from Minsk, Belarus! I was born there and lived there until I was 6 years old.

In 2003, my family won the Green Card lottery, and we up and moved to the United States!

In 2004, our family of four (my mom, my dad, my brother, and I) drove in a Honda CR-V to Alaska! (Well, not quite to Alaska, you can’t drive into Juneau, AK.)

I lived in Alaska until I was 18 years old, traveling at least three times a year with family, and loving life!

I moved to Boston for college, graduating from Northeastern University in 2020! (Woohoo, recent college grad!)

From the moment I graduated high school until I was a junior in college, I went back home to Alaska every summer to work at a heli-tourism company. I worked both on the Mendenhall glacier as a glacier tour guide and at the base as a radio dispatcher!

During my time at Northeastern, I did a 6-month internship back home in Kyiv, Ukraine and that is where I met Aiden! My time in Kyiv is highlighted in the “Working Abroad” section.

Currently in Boston, planning our next getaway! Thanks for following along!
